Magic Hour

HARRY HARRIS, JR.

Watch episodes of the late-1950s Rory Calhoun cowboy series The Texan,
and there's a good chance it was edited by Harry Harris.
He moved on to directing in the 60s, most notably the b&w tv westerns
Wanted: Dead or Alive, Rawhide, and Tales of Wells Fargo.
Harris directed sixty-five episodes of Gunsmoke.
After doing five half-hours, he directed the first hour-long episode, 'Perce.'
Twenty-two of Kathleen Hite's Gunsmoke scripts were directed by Harris.
A bigger mystery than the fact that Harris sometimes

affixed a Jr. to his name and at other times did not,
is that when Kathleen Hite wrote a script & Harry Harris directed it,

the episode was almost always...  magic.
